So, you want to be an original?

We hold auditions each year at the beginning of the fall semester! We can be found advertising for auditions at Activities Fair. Come find our table, meet our current members, and sign up for your 10-minute audition slot! We will also release a link here when audition sign ups open. Auditions typically take place on the Friday and Saturday of the second week of classes, and callbacks occur the Sunday directly following.

For your audition, come prepared with about 30–60 seconds of a song that shows off your range, tone, musicality, and personality. We want to know who you are as a person and musician! Additionally, we’ll bring you through a range test, rhythm and pitch exercises, and some sight reading.

We look for a variety of skills beyond being a great singer – if you are a vocal percussionist, choreographer, arranger, designer, or have prior leadership experience, we'd love to hear about it!

If you have additional questions, email us at contact@cmuoriginals.org!

Frequently asked questions

Can I audition for more than one group on campus?

Yes! We encourage you to audition for any and all groups that interest you. Each group's callback schedule will accommodate other groups for which you may be auditioning.

How often do you rehearse?

Rehearsal is rigorous and focused, but lots of fun! They usually take up between 7–9 hours a week. This coming school year, we plan to rehearse from 9:30–11:30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and from 11-2 pm on Sundays.
